How to Stay Hydrated and Drink Lots of Water

Drinking plenty of water is very important to staying healthy.
In fact, the human body can only live a few days without water.
Drinking plenty of water can also have great benefits like preventing certain cancers,
improving your mood, cleansing your body of impurities, preventing urinary infections and kidney stones, staving off dehydration and fatigue, increasing athletic ability, getting rid of headaches caused by dehydration, and helping to reduce joint pain.

As you can see there are lots of benefits of getting plenty of water to drink.

With summer coming fast its even more important to start getting enough water in your system.
In order to stay hydrated a conscious effort must be made to always have access to water and plenty of it.
I have learned by trial and error that it is imperative to keep a large air tight water bottle with you wherever you go. It also helps to have access to a water fountain or a water spigot with drinkable water available.

When choosing the right water bottle 18ozs to 24ozs is a good size to have enough water to last for about 6 hours before refilling. It is very important that they be air tight so that they do not spill or drip if tipped over. A mouth cover like the bottle on the right is also good to keep out contaminants.

Another must is to find a water bottle with a wide mouth so that the water can be chugged and not sucked out of the bottle.

Here are a couple of examples of water bottles with wide mouths.

On the other hand if you are trying to get a lot of water down and you are constantly having to suck the water out of the the bottle then you are probably sucking down  more air than anything else.  I also stay away from open mouth bottles because they are more cumbersome to open because you have to unscrew the top to drink out of them and you can easily spill them all over you if you are not paying close attention.

Here are a couple of examples of open mouth  and suction type water bottles.

Notice the open mouth and the suction top on these water bottles below.

 Things to remember:

Aim for 8 glasses of water a day.

Drink 8 large sips of water right after each time you urinate to keep fluids flowing through your system.

Keep a full water bottle with you at all times.  Drink about half the bottle and then fill it back up.

I find water at room temperature goes down faster in the winter time because it doesn't make you colder.

If you are urinating frequently and it is light yellow or almost colorless then you are doing it right.

If water is not available then clear liquids that are low in sugar are ok for a short period of time.

Raw fruits and vegetables are full of water too. So don't forget them.
